Prior to being called to the Bar Mr Boyle served as a Police Officer with Cambridgeshire Constabulary, retiring in 2003 as Chief Inspector, Head of Legal Services.
During his police service Mr Boyle held a number of senior posts including:
(i) Inspector with National Police Training, responsible for quality assuring training at Shotley District Training Centre, in Suffolk.
(ii) Detective Inspector 'Child Protection and Domestic Violence'. Mr Boyle set up this dedicated unit and managed it for 3 years. During this time he lectured on child protection and investigation, working with Social Services, Education, Health and the American Forces.
(iii) Inspector Tactical Firearms Unit, responsible for the protection of the Prime Minister, Mr John Major.
(iv) Police Federation Representative where he acted as a 'friend' for officers subject to disciplinary proceedings.
(v) Head of legal services.
Mr Boyle is a nationally trained hostage negotiator and has considerable experience commanding major public disorder operations.
He is also a Fellow of the Police Staff College, Bramshill, a recipient of the Police Long Service and Good Conduct Medal and the Queens Golden Jubilee Medal.
During his time at the Bar Mr Boyle has practised in the Magistrate and Crown Court where his previous experience has been a considerable advantage both prosecuting and defending. |
